8GB P2 cards and Avid Newscutter

Got our first batch of 8GB cards this week and are having some problems. The timecode zeros itself once it gets to 19 minutes, goes another 14 minutes then zeros again. Also it pops one of those cryptic errors when we try to consolidate into the Unity.

Avid suggests we need to upgrade the Newscutter software,(we just upgraded in April)

Put simply, anyone out there having similar problems?

BTW... No problems with the 4GB cards.
 
Interesting. I haven't had those problems at all. Only downfall I found in them, they won't load into the ghostbuster box (storedrive or whatever it's called), but can only play out of it. The computer also won't recognize the card.
 
P2 Update

The 8GB cards consolidate just fine in the Avid Express Pro HD laptops in the live trucks, but the resetting time code issue remains.
Could this be a windows issue?
 
Upgrades

Upgrades are very important when working in the P2 enviroment. This goes for all P2 equipement (P2 Store, Cards, Cameras, Computers, NL Systems, and the Bay Drive) and should be done on a monthly basis. If your experiencing a problem make sure you call and get the problems on a Ticket with Avid and Panasonic so they can elevate the problem and resolve in a new version.

The big thing you guys are experiencing is some of your devices are configured for thr 4GB cards and not the 8GB cards - you will need to download the firmare upgrades for the cards and other equipment you have from this site:

Will need to check back frequently for updates.

Now if your running Avid with P2 you need to be up on the latest software 6.2.4 - there is a problem with 6.2.4 and the P2 Store with Media spanning clips in the consolidating process; just unmount all - remount all and keep Media Tool open when your consolidate - also make sure you keep media link to source drive. If your running Unity ISIS and Haystack 8 you will also need to make sure your MediaNet software is 3.5.5 or later. May sound like alot of work or a hassle, but it's no different then putting your camera in the shop for cleanings and rountine upkeep. We have been shooting P2 for over a year and have only done two upgrades. A side note, the SPX800 is the best camera I've worked with - I can make it look like anything I want.

Personally, I loved my 300a and hated when I went to DVCPro and swore I would hate tapeless format - but if I had a choice to go back to tape and past formats I would choose to stay 100% digital.

XDCam is looking better and better all the time.

I received a group email from someone ITVA DC who wanted to rent a P2 card. Jeez...:rolleyes:
