This is like stepping back in time, the good times, good to be back on B-Roll. I'm retired now after almost 60 incredible years in this profession, but by retire I mean I stopped taking assignment, I'm still in the profession but doing mostly volunteer work for non profit worthwhile organizations. My oldest son in his free time organize adult sport leagues, mainly basketball. For the last few years I video the events and posted on his YouTube channel but a few months ago he asked me if we could go live, something I never done before, my new venture started. Until then I didn’t know what the OBS studio (Open Broadcaster Software) was, and what Obsbot webcams were. After spending a little time learning this is what I ended up with, a 6 cameras set up going into my MacBook, 4 are hard wired and 2 are wireless, all HDMI, in spite many told me that HDMI is no good for what I’m trying to do and should go SDI instead, but with HDMI works perfectly, and with everything going my MacBook only uses 16% of the CPU capacity. My idea was to microscopically duplicate what large sport productions do, with one man crew instead of over 50, and it works, no issues whatsoever. My MacBook is my version of the production truck where all the cameras are connected, and is also my version of the satellite truck as it sends the signal somewhere else. OBS is my multi monitors, one for each camera, my switcher, text and graphic generator, and much more. So basically I combined my knowledge of broadcasting into the web, something that I wasn’t very familiar with, and it works, it takes me less than an hour to set all this up and ready to go. Of course I do all this as a volunteer, a lot of organizations want to hire me to do the same for them, but at this stage of the game (I’ll be 80 in a few months) is not wise to make commitments.
