DAY 3
April 9, 2003
Somewhere in Arizona
I've enjoyed viewing the latest broadcasting technology, but after all, this is my vacation from work. I think I deserve a little down time. With sunny skies and 80 degree temperatures it was the perfect conditions to rent a convertible and cruise to the Hoover Dam.
Trista, Joe and I piled into our little Eclipse and took off for the 30 miles to the Hoover Dam. I'll refrain from any dam jokes... but the view was amazing. The fact that human ingenuity was able to take control of nature is awe-inspiring.
After looking over the edge of the dam, we got back in the car and went for a drive to nowhere. We had no idea where we were going, but as long as the view was good, we kept driving. A detour off the highway took us to Meadview, AZ, a small town with one store and a lot of open space. The sight of crystal clear blue water and majestic mountains was the perfect opposition to the hi-tech world of NAB. A nice book end for the week.
I was almost inspired to turn in my video camera, grab a large format view camera, hike into the mountains and shoot black and white pictures in the style of Ansel Adams. In the end, I'll be back at work on Monday with a refreshed sense of purpose.... That's what a good week off is all about.
Thanks for keeping tabs on our trip. We'll be home soon.
