Just finished guest teaching a class the other day and one of the students asked for some good free or cheap resources (e.g. a website) for basic storytelling tips with any camera. The class uses flip cams, smartphones, etc – whatever the school can get their hands on. It’s a college class but it’s not a dedicated storytelling/journalism program at the school. The students have lots of different interests and come from all different backgrounds. Very little previous journalism experience.

There was one book given out at the workshop a few years ago that focused on the basic stuff (rule of thirds, backlight/keylight, etc) but I can’t remember the name of it. It was a glossy paperback coffee table book size. Anybody remember the name of it? Anyone have any good free resource websites that explain the basics?
