From the April 17, 1912 edition of La Presse of Paris, another article on the long-forgotten newsreel cameraman who went down with the Titanic a century ago today.
Among the French passengers of the Titanic was one of our friends, Mr. Malachard, camera operator, attached for many years in the news section of the excellent Pathé-Journal.
Mr. Malachard had embarked at Cherbourg en-route to New York.
The director of his service, Mr. Gaveau has expressed his concern about the fate of his colleague.
Mr. Malachard, Gaveau said, had been designated to go to New York where, with employees of the latter city, he was to film arrival of the steamer “France” which made its maiden voyage on April 20th.
Our collaborator knew the route he had done several times, but the absence of news makes us fear it has unfortunately died too, in this terrible disaster.
We wired on all sides for reassurance and we still have no news. You can easily understand our anxiety and our desire to be informed promptly.
