Hearst news photog Norman Alley (with Eyemo) with an unidentified USN photographer aboard the USS Lexington (CV-2) somewhere in the Pacific in January of 1942.
In the background on the flight deck, you can see sailors rigging a barricade to recover a severely damaged aircraft that was unable to land on the carrier normally with Alley and the Navy photog filming the recovery.
Like the Panay a few years earlier, the Lexington would be lost in battle but this time around Alley would not be aboard to film her foundering at sea.
