Sixty-eight years ago today, the invasion of Normandy began…and of course Robert Capa is being lionized again. He wasn’t the only photog on those beaches that bloody morning so many years ago.
In addition to the Navy and Army Signal Corps cameramen, there were newsreel photographers present too.
Frank “Taxi” Purnell, Neil Sullivan, John “Bocky” Bockhorst, Bob Blair, Irving Browning, Sam Greenwald, Jessie Sabin, Tom Priestly and Jack Lieb history all mentions being there. They are among the names who shot the films you see in documentary after documentary.

Jack Lieb of News of the Day also narrated some of the film he shot that day in 1970. His grandson put some of it online here.
