Not long ago, a guy who is sort of a regional chief photog for our company was training us on our newest P2 cameras, and he told us a story about when one of his P2 cards crapped out on him and he retired it from service. Out of curiosity, he pried the card open to see what was inside. To his amazement, it basically consisted of 6 (or 8) SD cards networked together inside of an exterior casing.
So this brings up the question: Is Panasonic overcharging the consumer on the price of P2 cards? Similarly, since Sony’s SxS cards are also ridiculously expensive, are they also made of something similarly simple, and are they also overpricing their product out of pure corporate greed?

Wouldn’t it be nice if P2 cards were just as cheap as tapes, so we wouldn’t be dealing with stupid issues like "how am I gonna back up these clips?" -Instead, if we shot a special project, we could simply give the P2 card to the reporter or producer, and just grab another fresh $30 P2 card out of a box of them? -You know, just like we used to do with tapes?
