Who has boxes of Beta tape?

Like many others here, I’ve got more than my share of boxes with Beta tape stashed away, full of old stories and even raw video I’ve shot over the years. At one time I had a Sony Beta machine but…it’s long gone, somewhere at some 3rd world TV station now.

Anyway…doing my weekend "honey-do" shopping I discovered something which put a smile on my face.

Costco does Betacam transfers to DVD for less than twenty bucks. Two tape maximum or a total time limit of two hours of video on one or two tapes. It takes three to four weeks from the time you drop off the tape to get it back along with the DVD copy.

No, not stellar fast service by any means but it sure is affordable from where I sit! A local producer clued me in to Costco for this service but I’d forgotten about it until today. It usually costs much more from regular production/video transfer houses…but you also get your product transferred and back faster too for the higher price.

I don’t want to cross the marketing line rule here at B-Roll Online but I finally have some hope I will get to see my old world again after too many years.

I already have a really good DVD ripping program I purchased which will allow me to reuse the video for future projects once it’s burned to the disks.

To me…it’s the old adage…"fast, good and cheap, you can really only ever get two out of three"…and I’m happy to settle for good and cheap! 😉
