Amplified earbuds?

We just got new cameras so we can shoot HD. They’re Panasonic AG-HPX370s.

I’ve always used earbuds to monitor my audio and they worked well. But with this new camera, the earbuds don’t do much good. Even though they have rubber cups that block out a lot of the outside noise, I can’t really hear the audio I’m recording, even though the monitor dial is turned up as loud as it will go.

We had a Panasonic rep in recently to help with the transition and we asked if there’s a way to boost the audio monitor output from the jack, but he said there isn’t.

So does anyone know if there are amplified earbuds out there that work well, or some other way for me to boost the level of my audio monitor? I don’t want to have to use big noise-canceling headphones, since I’m a one-man-band and I’m already carrying enough.

Thanks!
