I just wanted to jot a quick note to thank all those that have been a part of the B-Roll community all these years and have offered support and advice on all things E-N-G.
After an amazing, storied career of nearly 17 years at KCOY & KKFX Television, and a total of 26 years in broadcasting, I’ve decided to take on a new challenge. I have accepted a position with California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, just up the coast from KCOY/KKFX in Santa Maria, CA.
My job really won’t be changing much, as I’ll be doing essentially the same thing–Broadcast Specialist (Operations Management)–just in a different environment. It is a tremendous opportunity that I couldn’t pass up, continuing the essentials I’ve been doing all along: Mentoring the next generation of videojournalists and integrating technology into visual storytelling.
And, I couldn’t have done it without the support of the great community and members that make up B-Roll.net.
The industry has changed so much from the time that B-Roll.net came onto the scene to now. In every turn, the collective experience of its members has helped me traverse the industry trends and best practices to maintain quality storytelling and videojournalism–on a budget.
And, I hope I can rely on the community as I make this transition.
While I will be making the transition into the academic world, it will be required of me to keep up with industry trends, technology and ethics. This is where I hope to continue to rely on B-Roll.net members and community to help me, as it always has.
So a thank you to all that have helped me out in giving great advice, and criticism, in the past. It has all been much appreciated and I’ll hope to continue the conversation.
Yours,
TM
