More tales from the dim distant past of Pathe News’ Fred Giese causing trouble – this time with Fox Movietone’s Jack Barnett.
Chicago was the scene of the well known air races and [the newsreel outfits] had approximately 30 men on the job at all times. There is always something to break the monotony on such a job, so this time Fred Giese decided to start something.
Out on the field his first victim was Jack Barnett.
Giese to Barnett–Say, Jack, have you made a shot of the Lindbergh baby?
Barnett to Giese (very much excited)–No, where is it?
Giese to Barnett–Right over there in the grandstand.
Enough said. Barnett was on his way. About three hours later Barnett was still looking in the grandstand as there were only 75,000 people seated there and Barnett had looked them all over searching for that little 10 pounds of Lindbergh Junior. No one said anything to Jack, and they let him look, but the Lindbergh baby was not even interested as it was cooing somewhere in New Jersey while Barnett continued to look and Giese continued to laugh.
