(So, I saw this post and hadn’t realized that I never finished writing it.  I don’t know where I was headed with it, but then, I never do.  We’re just going to call this part of my “Better Late than Never Series”.)

It’s Saturday morning. Maybe I should be eating over sweetened cereal and watching cartoons or at the very least, I should be resting up from a pretty long week.

It was a long day on the 4th and I’m still a little loopy from twelve hours (mostly in the sun).

My assignment was the CBS Radford Studios Fireworks Show.

The show itself wasn’t too difficult to cover, but the day was actually full with interviews and b-roll of all the activities that were happening on the lot.

Hot day and we were lucky to have an electric cart for at least a part of the time.

Funny, but I didn’t pull out my still camera during the day.  I had it in mind that I wanted to get some good shots of the fireworks.

Difficult to do when I’m working and actually shooting a live shot.

Luckily, we had an intern with us (hey, Rachel).  Not sure if snapping still photos was in the job description, but I think I made it up by shooting standups for her.

So, these fireworks shots are not taken by me.

I did set up the camera and told Rachel what to do.

While these pictures were being taken, I was shooting the fireworks and faces in the crowd for our live coverage of the fireworks during our newscast.

I think I was probably getting on everyone’s nerves, because I actually had to have the camera light on to get shots.

The assignments I have are sometimes kind of annoying to the folks on the other side of my lens, but I really try to accomplish what I’m supposed to be doing in as inoffensive a manner as possible.

If you were in the first three rows during the fireworks show at the CBS Radford studios this past 4th of July, I’m really sorry for shining my light in your face while you were trying to enjoy the fireworks.

Summer is pretty much over and the intern Rachel has moved on to her fall school semester.   My thanks to her for snapping the pictures while I was working and suffering through the long day.

Next year, maybe we can swap, I’ll take the still shots and you can annoy the crowd.
