Back then if you were interested in news photography, there were only two places to go, Photog’s Lounge and B-roll, and while the former was fun, I spent most of my time here.
Many jobs and many years later, and I’m still here.
Why?
Because you have done a brilliant job over the years of maintaining the site, and keeping the overall tone civil. Because I know that no matter what kind of question I want to ask, there will be someone here to help me. Because I know there will be questions that I can answer, and pass on some of my experience. Because participating in some of the threads over the years had made me think long and hard about ethics, goals, techniques, workflows and many other important topics.
It’s hard to do, and it takes a delicate balancing act to succeed. I know you’ve had to make lots of tough decisions over the years, and have taken lots of heat for them, but the site, and its community, endures despite countless predictions to the contrary.
Over the years we’ve seen network TV’s ratings diminish and splinter as cable and the internet expanded. In the same way there are now many, many sites that people can go to to discuss the topics we discuss here, and I’m sure the amount of hits you get here has diminished accordingly.
But I sincerely hope you keep this site going. If there are any financial issues, please let us know and I’m sure that many of us would be happy to contribute to the site’s future.
B-Roll has been the rock in many of our careers, and I hope it continues on as long as I do.
Thanks Kevin
