A Lot of Trouble for Cheap Stuff.

There’s a Walmart in downtown Los Angeles.  I’m not a fan of their business practices, but I’ve shopped there before and will likely shop there again.

Any time new folk are on the road covering stories away from home, it is comforting to know that a Walmart will likely available to pick up odds and ends that might be needed.

(Costco is still my shopping BFF.)

So a protest was scheduled and I was assigned to cover it.  No reporter, but I think the station underestimated the size of the protest.  Fifty protestors volunteered to be arrested.

It was a peaceful protest and I got to stand in the middle of the closed off street to record the arrests as they were being made.

The Walmart workers are protesting the low wages and lack of benefits.

Being a union member, I agree with the workers, but that wasn’t my concern.

The last thing I want is for things to get out of hand. . .while I’m standing in the middle of it.

Intentionally spending any time in jail is serious thing.

The first ten arrests were interesting.  The last two arrests were interesting.

Honestly, I got pretty bored in the middle there.

Next time, maybe you guys hold it down to fifteen arrests and it wouldn’t hurt to provide punch and pie for the media.

I know somewhere you can get a good deal on stuff like that.
