On Thanksgiving Day fifty-three years ago, one of the most celebrated of Ed Murrow’s television documentaries aired – CBS Reports: Harvest of Shame.

The two photogs who shot it, most of you probably wouldn’t recognize their names….Martin M. “Marty” Barnett and Charles J. “Charlie” Mack. Its a shame that unlike still photogs, newsreel/TV photogs who were once legends tend to fade into obscurity as time marches on. Especially since Charlie Mack, asides from shooting many of Murrow’s iconic TV stories of the 50s and 60s, is the only reason the NPPA isn’t a stills-only association.
