I just really think it was cool that I was there the night that Vin Diesel addressed the crowd of fans who had come out to the site where Paul Walker died.
The studio (from what I heard) had arranged for some private time for the friends and family of Paul Walker to visit the scene.
All fans and media were kept out of the area and when we were finally allowed in, I was one of the first news vehicles to arrive at the scene.
It was my first trip there that week. As I got out and tried to get a feel for how things were situated, I heard Vin Diesel’s deep unmistakable voice in the air. He was addressing the crowd of fans who were still waiting to gain access to the ever growing memorial.
As quickly as I could, I grabbed my camera and ran over. No time for a tripod. No time to white balance. Just roll and hope the light is close to the last time I shot (it wasn’t).
Another station got more of the speech. I captured exactly one full sentence and Vin Diesel’s walk to his car.
That one single sentence made for an awesome sound bite.
Score.
