You’ll be happy to know that I’m not going to do anything silly like try to post every day this year. I admit, I set the bar pretty low in 2013.
Of course, if you count my last year’s resolution of writing less and drinking more, then you have to admit, I pretty much nailed it.
This week leading into the new year started out with an easy assignment. All I had to do was put the crew from WLNS on TV from in front of the Rose Bowl.
The technical challenge was pretty basic. No SNG, just a microwave bounce from me to CBS Newspath and then a relay from them to a satellite for the downlink to the Lansing station.
My world was pretty much restricted to my microwave truck. No problem there, I like my microwave truck.
WLNS is the CBS affiliate in Lansing, Michigan. Three on camera folks and two photographers made the trip West.
Working in news is something I enjoy, but even though I enjoy it, news traveling is never easy. It’s also not a vacation (even if you’re leaving bitter cold weather behind).
I smiled to myself as I watched this group get their work done. I’ve been in their shoes on a few trips myself.
At the end of the day, they made it on air. Not an easy thing to do for ambitions of an hour long show being anchored from two time zones away.
I hope the Lansing viewers appreciate the effort.
Their TV crew’s effort, not so much mine. I just appreciated being able to ease through the final days of 2013.
Happy 2014 everybody! I’m claiming the same resolution as last year. Well, guess I’m off to a bad start.
