Anyone out there recognize what this box was originally intended for?

Two ideas that have been tossed out on Facebook so far is hold either wireless mikes or a sungun, barn doors and dichroic filters. The box is labeled with the NBC Miami bureau Kennedy Parkway address on the side, dates from at least 1978, appears to be made from quartersawn beechwood and measures 7″ x 7″ x 9 1/2″. (And no, a Filmo won’t fit in it.)
