Stock houses

I know that the subject on stock houses was discussed here in the past but as I wasn’t interested I didn’t pay much attention.

My son has been organizing my hard drives, incredible that even thou I try to be very organized in just a few year has turned into a mess.

We have terabytes of video clips just sitting there, a good portion is generic footage of just about every imaginable subject. He’s been suggesting that we put them in a stock house and maybe get something back, they are not doing much good now unless I need some for ongoing projects. I’m wondering if the work to get the clips ready and upload them is worth the time in possible or potential return.

Beside the big ones like Getty Images that I used many years ago for stills the only site that I know for footage is Pond5, and the only reason that I know of them is because I get a lot of emails promos. Most of the footage in there is pretty amateurish, borderline lousy, I guess they don’t have a good screening system even thou they say they have. Also the rates reflect the quality of the work, actually even if cheap still overpriced.

Getty bought iStock and according to some reports they are not making many friends.

So my question here is, does anyone use stock houses regularly and can give some suggestions or recommendations.
