Fulfilling a dream

I don’t often get to meet someone who has a real dream, and I never met anyone who was actually able to make that dream a reality, a B-roller nevertheless.

Ed Kukla has been a longtime contributor on this board, better know under the screen name “Freedom”.

Ed for many years spoke about selling everything in order to fulfill that dream. This year that dream came thru. Ed and his wife Chris liquidated just bout everything and hit the road, or better the waters. Their dream was to get a sailboat and sail away forever.

After many years they finally did it. A few months ago they bought a 42’ sloop, navigated the great lakes until the temperature started dropping and headed south toward the warm Florida.

Chris and Ed docked their sloop in St.Petersburg where for a few week will be home. They’ll spend the winter circumnavigating Florida and in the springtime they’ll hit north toward the continental east coast.

Monday after Xmas, after so many years having conversation on this forums we finally got to meet face to face. My son Joe and me got a tour of “Freedom”, that’s not only Ed’s screen name it’s also the name of his sloop. We got an in-depth education on how a couple can ingeniously live in a small place with all the comforts of home, actually that is their home, then we had a nice long lunch, at a waterfront restaurant of course, mixing the conversation between the video business and sailing.

Ed skills as a freelance producer isn’t wasted, he has kept a limited amount of video gears just enough to barter his video skills in exchange of docking fees that can cost as much as a 4 stars hotel per night.

Sailing isn’t as easy as I imagined it would be, it is an adventure.

From someone with a lot of envy, best of luck Chris and Ed

This is their blog, read it, it’s fascinating.
