I know the large chip cameras like the F3 and the FS100 are extremely popular right now. However, I need some thing that I can use as a general purpose camera first. One that I can run n’ gun with, shoot a doc’, corporate video, or just a presentation with. To me the large chip cameras are more for a film workflow. I need a zoom and 1/2 or 2/3 inch chips.
The EX3 has been great as a general purpose camera, especially for small shoots. I think the viewfinder is the best in the under $10,000 price range. With the bazooka loupe and the variable peaking knob, I can really see what is in focus. I’m really not fond of the flip out screens on the EX1, or the small Panasonics like the HVX-200.
Generally when I need a full sized camera, I can rent it, or the production company du jour that I’m working with will provide one. However, I am also considering upgrading to a full sized 2/3 inch chip camera like the 350 or the 500. I’m not sure though.
Has any one heard any rumors of an update to the EX3, or some thing similar being revealed at NAB? I hate to buy some thing right before NAB because it may be obsolete in a month!
Thoughts? Rumors? Cryptic hints? Innuendoes?
