So…while working on my Basics of VJ textbook my co-author brought up WALLDO. He first brought it to my attention about ten years ago when we were doing some workshops together. Frankly I’d never heard of it – but he says he got it from a news cameraman/that it was used in news. I figure it must be an east-coast thing. For those of you who are like me, in the dark – here’s what it stands for:
W ide shots: remember to get wide shots to establish your location.
A ngled shots: angled shots draw the eye to the subject or action.
L low shots: give a different perspective to the subject, which adds interest.
L linking shots: are used for transitions or to tie the previous shot to the next.
D depth shots: provide visual separation and perspective from main subject.
O opposites: provide a point counter point view and add difference to your shots.
Kind of a memory aid to help remember to get all of the shots. Let the comments begin.
