Some miscellaneous ephemera from my files. In this case Dennis J. “Denny” Bossone of Fox Movietone’s 1943 Miss America Pageant media credentials.
Denny Bossone was a cameraman for Movietone and later KYW-TV as their chief photog. He was also known as Denny Welsh, a nickname that was held over from his brief career as an amateur boxer – an experience that apparently came in handy at the 1926 Miss America Pageant when he laid a beatdown upon Brownie in retaliation for slapping a smaller photog. Bossone ended up in the Atlantic City jail for that incident, but was sprung from the pokey by no other than the director of the Miss America Pageant himself in time to cover the show.
The University of South Carolina has online the newsreel that contains the story that Bossone, along with Jess Kizis, shot in Atlantic City.
