I just turned in my notice to a great station. I’m posting here to let you all know, there are still stations willing to hire experienced photogs. I’m only leaving because my wife got an offer in another city. I honestly don’t know if I’ll be able to find work at one of those stations because of my age or preconceived financial expectations. The station I’m leaving has a very strong JOURNALISTIC commitment. The reporters are career reporters. They care about the city they serve and aren’t looking to just build a tape and move on. A true place for journalists.
They are the #2 station in West Palm Beach(WPBF) but quickly gaining on the legacy NBC affiliate. The gear is the best in the market. Newest live trucks(larger Mercedes/Sprinter type), dedicated uplink system(never buy time because their company OWNS its own transponders), Avid editing, switching to Premiere within the next year or so.
My family moved here because of the quality of life. West Palm Beach is amazing, but when the wife gets promoted, you gotta go. I’m sad to leave such an amazing station and looking forward to the next journey.
I’ve encouraged them to post a listing in the jobs section, but that may take a few more days. Please, if you’re looking for a strong newsroom and excellent photography team, consider my old station. WPBF
