Working Together in the Field

Calling all bloggers, "people with a website," and newspapers who now shoot video:

TV photogs from competing stations have worked together in the field now for 60 or so years. We have developed a system of unwritten rules with each other that we all adhere to (for the most part) to ensure that each of us gets what our bosses tell us to get.

We make space for each other, we cram together into a scrum when we need to, we duck down or move to the side a little if one of our fellow photogs from another station needs us to make minor adjustments so we can all gather quality video and audio and make our bosses happy. But the main reason we do this is because tomorrow I may need the same guy to move a foot out of my way. It’s called a professional courtesy.

The new media outlets cannot just show up on the scene 50-60 years later and pee all over all over our unwritten rules and codes of conduct that we all share with each other and that have been in place since the 1950’s.

So please come and cover whatever event you want but just know that there is a system that works (for the most part) and remember that tomorrow you might need a small favor from one of us.
