Here is a stream from a police shooting today.

Here is the .flv that was recorded to Ustream uploaded to YouTube for those who are trying to watch on your iPhones or iPads.
Streamed 720 HD (2.2Mbs) using my iPhone 4’s 3G hotspot for internet. Ustream does not support the VidiU’s 1080 HD (5.0 Mbs) yet. The VidiU also does not support my AT&T Beam 4G LTE modem yet which would definitely improve the quality and delay over the 3G connection. Its only a single shot because I was using my other camera with a Teradek Bond to actually cover the situation LIVE for the station. This is my NX5U set up beside my car. It freezes a few times in the beginning because its pushing a 2.2Mbs stream through 3G with a max 700kbs upload ability. The VidiU does a nice job of adjusting the bitrate of the stream to match available bandwith. Watching the video LIVE on my work phone on the Ustream app the delay was about 17 seconds. I know the delay is less when viewing on a PC with a good internet connection. I also know the delay decreases as you decrease the quality of the stream in the VidiU.
Overall I’m pretty happy with the results and we feel confident we can use it if needed to provide LIVE shots (not reporter LIVE shots) of breaking news in HD if necessary. I’m still holding out hope for that firmware update any day now that will add support for my AT&T Beam. Teradek says they are working on it. I’ll post an update when that happens.
On a side note, we have three Teradek Bonds at our station and we’re anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Bond Pro’s.
