Let’s say you’re standing around and a car catches on fire near you.
The driver bails out of the flaming car and runs away.
The flaming (now driverless) car rolls forward into oncoming traffic.
. . .and explodes!
You’re watching all of this from a fairly safe distance, so what do you do with the video footage you’ve shot on your cell phone?
You sell it to a news station (duh).
At this point, I drive out in one of our news vans with an intern/PA/field producer (wink-wink), copy the footage from your phone, interview you and then feed it all back to the station.
The story of the burning car and runaway driver will then make it into the late newscast.
Some days it’s nice to have it easy.
(Just don’t take any chances. A minute or two of news footage isn’t worth your safety.)
I just noticed that it’s Friday. Woo-hoo!
