Last November, I was watching a Kennedy documentary that featured a behind the scenes look using a few re-enactments mixed with real footage showing how the news networks covered Kennedy’s death. They also mentioned and showed the use of a 1951 RCA backpack broadcast unit that was described as weighing about 53 pounds, including batteries along with antennas for transmitting picture signals and receiving orders from a base station extending from the top of the pack.
