My answer " well if this is new school I do not want to be part of it because it’s failing" !

Let me explain, (I’ll try in 200 words or less) I think I have said this before, I have left TV news over 10yrs ago to work for a Regional Sports station. Every now and then I freelance for my old station that I left 10yrs ago. (believe it or not quite a few of the guys and gals are still there) So I went out with the Environmental reporter yesterday.

Easy story, an old dam is letting to much water flow into the river and drying up the pond that the dam is there for. Everything is great, 1 story have all day, no rush blah, blah. Time to shoot a stand up and I ask the reporter give me 20 seconds to get the lav from the car across the street. (now I hate using the stick mic pet peeve for me) He said no I will use the stick mic, "come on the lav is just across the street". Nope and he begins to get mad " just shoot the stand up" I explain how much better it would look etc. etc, Nope and here it comes "YOU ARE TO OLD SCHOOL!!! Ouch!!!

Head back to the station to put this puppy together. 6pm pkg and a VO-SOT/VO for 5pm. I edit the 5pm vo-sot/vo and I hand the 5 pm producer the script with times. The producer, young mid 20 something said to me what does this mean. Ok I begin to explain the vo was :40, the sot was :12, and the vo tag was :30. What’s not to get. He say’s "I have never seen that before, a time that states VO-TAG what does that mean." The 6pm producer another 20 something says, (wait for it) "HE IS OLD SCHOOL"

There it is, twice in one day!! Maybe twice in 3 hrs!!
Man am I getting to old for this job ( I will be 50 this year) or is this whole industry a bunch of untrained kids that really don’t have a clue. This is simple stuff.
