DAY 3

April 9, 2002 4:05pm PT
Sands Convention Hall

NAB is the place to be if you want discover the latest technology. Most of it is so innovative that it's not even available on the market yet.

Check out this amazing camera I discovered from Sony. It's shipping now! The engineers believe that technology should be modular so you can easily interchange the parts.

Connect this camera with their high tech tape deck and beautiful pictures can be captured on the fly. Because the tape is reel to reel, you don't need to worry about having an exact tape stock. How's that for versatility.

I think separate deck and camera is the wave of the future!

Actually, I'd like to thank Dan Lohaus at VidiPax for letting me get a shot of their vintage equipment displayed at their booth (they restore old video and audio tape).

This event is so large that it takes up three huge buildings to house it all. The Sands side of things is mostly internet and multimedia content delivery. I wound up spending more time in Adobe classes learning Photoshop and GoLive than actually checking out equipment. Theoretically, b-roll.net will be a better looking website because of it.

Hoodman's Jorge Gonzalez hooked me up with a sample of their "Hoodfinder" to test and review. The adjustable viewfinder cover has removable terry cloth edge to make for a more comfortable shoot. It is a lot like the i-cuff I reviewed a while ago. We'll put it through it's paces and give you the results soon.

We're off to a couple receptions, and then it's time to check out the sites and sounds of the Vegas nightlife. Stay tuned for more tomorrow.
